Anxiety

According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fifth Edition (DSM-D), anxiety related disorders and behavioral disturbances involve emotional responses to real or perceived threat, whereas anxiety itself is anticipation of future threat.

You don’t have to meet the requirements of a diagnosis to order a kit.Simply order what you need, whenever you need it, and seek professional help if your intervention strategies are not working. Each anxiety kit contains:

  • One Locus of Control activity
  • One Worry Doll activity
  • One Window of Tolerance activity

The anxiety kit is $57, including shipping and handling, and includes enough supplies to be repeated. Furthermore, if you order 10 or more kits, they are discounted to accommodate therapists ordering for session use, or classroom teachers working on social emotional development in students or staff. Ten or more kits sell for $40 each, and 25 or more are $35 each.

The Locus of Control Activity

If you want to learn more about Locus of Control, check out this webpage:Locus of Control | Psychology Today

There is a lot to it, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. For our kit purposes, locus of control refers to the events going on in your life that either you can or cannot control. You receive instructions to create a visual so that you can see, the majority of your issues or concerns are things within your control. Sometimes, however, as in the case of grieving a loss, you may have to practice acceptance. Your kit comes with a brochure that gives more information on how to complete the locus of control activity.

The Worry Doll Activity

Worry dolls are a Guatemalan tradition. The Spanish term for them is Muñeca quitapena, and it is believed that the doll, after it has been placed under the pillow of a sleeping child, takes upon itself the child’s worries and concerns.

Even if you don’t “believe” that the doll takes away the worries, perhaps having the faith to perform a ritual is enough of a placebo effect that one feels as if they are taking action. Furthermore, a person of faith might want to think of the worry doll as a prayer doll. Whatever works for you! Each kit includes a brochure that gives more information on how to complete the worry doll activity.

The Window of Tolerance

The Window of Tolerance is a framework from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (a derivative from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to gauge your emotional state. It allows you to use your nervous system as a barometer for stress. While in your window of tolerance, you experience optimal functioning. You learn more about the Window of Tolerance in the kit brochure. If you get too anxious, or if you feel too overwhelmed to the point of inaction, try this kit to help you process your mental state when you are either over or under stimulated.
